Modern Vintage... Oxymoron?
(click on the pic to enbiggan)
Vintage is hard for me. I mean HARD. I stare and stare and stare at the works of folks who are good at it. Then I try it.
Two words: EPIC FAIL.
A week or so ago, oh, how I was having an internal war with myself... I could NOT get anything to pan out. Circular file was over-flowin'... I had to set it aside. Move on. Step out.
Today, I closed my eyes and didn't look at anything vintage...
I have to let go of all my preconceived ideas of what "vintage" is "supposed" to look like, in order to make anything I really like. There was a lotta monkey clappin' goin' on when I finished these... because I like them. Quite muchly, if I do say so m'self. :)
And, when I had finished, well... I had an epic WIN!!! Go me!!! (arms wrapped 'round self, deep chortling)

Yay! So glad--I think it's such a great set for masculine designs!

Thanks heaps Julie for the ideas I've already tried a couple of things and turned out good. Love your cards.

I love this 'blend'. And would you believe 'oxymoron' is one of my favourite words! Yes I have fave words! 'Serendipidity' is another one.
I love all of the cards - but the OMG UR OLD is soooo funny - love it!

As I clicked on the link from Debby H. to here I was thinking to myself "modern vintage - isn't that an oxymoron?" You CRACK ME UP. But then, that's why we all love ya. Well, of course your card-making uber talent might have something to do with it too ;) Fabulous cards. You can never go wrong with a touch of humor.

Your Modern Vintage reminds me a bit of Steampunk (the future as envisioned by the past). Maybe the past as repurposed by the future?! Anyway, very effective cards. The OMG UR OLD gets ratified daily in our house, but our three irreverent sons...
I credited you with a project i submitted to Dynamic Duos--thought you might enjoy a peek. http://cjmacbred.blogspot.ca/2013/02/black-and-blue-all-overdynamic-duos-40.html
Love your work, Julie!

those are better than anything I have seen, so nice to not see frou frou, men with umbrellas, pointy hats or wings along with flowers, angels, doe eyed women and all that faldarah.

The bicycle card makes me so happy! It's sunny vintage. Yup, I looked it up in Webster's. And that OMG sentiment is heeee-larious!

LOVE your take on vintage Julie! Oh my...I love that sentiment "OMG you're old"! I'll have to use that for a friend of mine. Can't wait!

Great vintage cards! You are convincing me to try this style again. To just jump in and try it on my own to see what I can come up with. TFS ;-)

I have the same problem with vintage. I love it but can't make it!
These are gorgeous.

I like your take on vintage. It is such a wide open term. The old bike, the striped canvas bring back memories of the beach for me.It works! Coure, I'm vintage-omg.
